Diagnosing Your Desires

Feb 8, 2026    Pastor David Anglin

We all have desires. When is the last time you gave any thought to the quality or quantity of your desires? Not all desires are equal. There are things you may desire that are unhealthy or even destructive. There are also desires that we have that are benign and harmless. We are also capable of desires that are productive and lead to great fulfillment and exponentially good achievements.

It is a helpful and necessary exercise for us to evaluate our desires. What is the quality of our desires, and how will they help us or hurt us? Another important question is what do our desires tell us about ourselves? You can tell a lot about a person by the quality of their desires.

This Sunday, we will consider 1 John 2:16-17, "For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."

These verses reveal the urgency and eternal consequences of misordered desires. Join us as we dive into these important verses.
