Unashamed When Jesus Appears

Feb 22, 2026    Pastor David Anglin

In April 2002, we were buying our first house. It was in a new subdivision in the midst of a national financial crisis, and the builder gave us a great deal so he could keep selling houses. The neighborhood was worried about their values dropping, and was keeping a close eye on how the house would look to make sure it would not devalue the neighborhood. The day after moving in, Janet and I were sitting on the couch, taking a break from opening boxes. Suddenly, the door flung open, and a strange lady walked in. She was shocked to find us already moved in and was embarrassed to get caught scoping our house out.

One day, Jesus has promised he will return. His return will be unscheduled but really not unannounced, as He has promised to come back and has told us to be ready. Are you ready? If He returned tomorrow, would you be unashamed at His coming? Would you have regrets knowing the time is up and Jesus is taking you home? There would be no more time to catch up on your prayer life, talk to family and friends about following Jesus, read through the Bible at least once, or give up your pet sins.

John gives us some insights into how to have confidence at the appearance of Jesus. Would you be shocked if Jesus flung open our door today?
