Validating Your Faith
If you were to wander down a busy street in Johnson City and ask people if they were a Christian, the majority would probably answer positively. They would probably add several qualifiers like, “I’m not a good one” or “I try to live a good life.” How do you know if your faith in Jesus is valid? Many people can point to a past moment or claim of belief, but can they point to current evidence of knowing Jesus?
There was a group in the first century known as the gnostics who boasted of their superior knowledge of Christ. John wrote a letter to challenge their claim. In 1 John 2:3-6, he challenged the validity of their claim to secret knowledge over having personal experiential knowledge. A valid faith should also be evidenced in a life of obedience.
John explores evidence for authentic faith and how to expose false faith.
