Jesus in the Storm

Jesus in the Storm

If someone walked up to you and asked you what you believe about God, what would you say? How would you describe God? You may turn to scripture to explain who God is and why it matters. You may give some personal examples from your life as you have grown to believe in, follow, and trust Jesus with your salvation.

The challenge for many people is that much of our knowledge is more academic than active. We want to be able to answer questions for those searching or skeptical about God. We have sought answers to questions that we may have wrestled with. How deep and biblically informed is your understanding of and faith in God? Is your hope and trust solidly resting in Jesus?

In Luke 7-8, Jesus had just taught the disciples, the importance of being the good soil that receives and applies God’s Word in their lives. Jesus had warned them to hear and obey his teaching so they would be like a house built on a solid rock foundation that is able to withstand the storms. If you asked the disciples if they believed in God and trusted in Jesus they would have confidently exclaimed, “of course!”

Nothing reveals the extent of our faith in God like a crisis.

If you have ever struggled with fear in the midst of a storm, know that you are not the only one. It is in the storms that we find out what we really believe. In the storm, we also find out what we really don’t believe. Storms expose how much of our knowledge and faith is academic and how much is active. Nothing exposes the weakness or strength of our faith and belief in Jesus like a raging storm.
