The Harvest is Ready

Over recent years there is an increasing sense of uncertainty and despair for many. Christians are not immune from these feelings. We seem to have reached a tipping point where everything has changed or is about to change. Times like these are unsettling as we wonder if we are in the midst of a winter of despair or a spring of hope.

As Charles Dickens described in the Tale of Two Cities, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair."

In first-century Israel, Jesus gave his disciples a challenge during a similar time of uncertainty. Using the analogy of a harvest Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." A harvest is a fascinating example of a moment in time where there's both hope and desperation.

Jesus was sending his disciples out to preach and prepare the way for people to hear the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. Jesus was calling his disciples to move past despair and uncertainty to urgency. This Sunday, we will be exploring Luke 10:1-12, as Jesus calls us to the urgency of His mission.
